Professional Development and research

RNMU is providing Continuous Professional Development to its members.

  1. Pediatric HIV and PMTC B+ mentorship training

Rwanda QUAD composed by the Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union(RNMU), the National Nursing and Midwifery Council, the Nursing Education Faculty and the office of the Chief Nursing in the Ministry of Health have benefited grant from ARC to improve nursing and midwifery professional regulation and practice in pediatric HIV/AID.

  1. Post-Partum hemorrhage management training and Helping Baby breathing trainings

In line with RNMU objective to strengthen its members’ professional skills, the Union organizes Professional Development Trainings for its members. RNMU organized a week training at its HQ for its members in areas of the postpartum hemorrhage management and Helping Baby Breathing. In partnership with the Norway Nurses Organization (NNO), the training took place between 22-23, April in 2016.

RNMU also organized a same training in Musanze where members in the Northern Province were trained on Post-Partum hemorrhage management training and Helping Baby breathing techniques.

  1. African Health Professionals  Regional Collaborative (ARC) training in partnership with RNMU

RNMU member of Rwanda QUAD with different partners organized between 21-23 March 2017 in Kigali, a three-day LEARNING SESSION aimed at improving access to HIV prevention, care and treatment. The partners are the Emory University School of Nursing, the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation, the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), and the African Health Professions Regional Collaborative (ARC) for Nurses and Midwives Secretariat based in Nairobi, Kenya, with support from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The 2nd ARC East Learning Session in Kigali outcomes were:

  • To provide a regional learning forum to build expertise to sustainably;
  • To strengthen health system support structures for quality nursing practice in HIV care and the ability of nursing and midwifery leaders to successfully implement, monitor and evaluate national quality improvement projects;
  • To convene country teams to strengthen leadership capacity in project management, to monitor and evaluate, and effective communication;
  • To Foster collaboration, promote networking, and disseminate tools between nursing and midwifery leaders within each country and across the region;
  • To provide a forum for nursing and midwifery leaders to engage meaningfully with technical advisors in health policy and clinical practice to improve the performance of HIV service delivery.
  1.  Young Female Nurses and Midwives Training

RNMU, in collaboration with the Rwanda Women Network (RWN) conducted a rapid needs’ assessment survey to investigate nurses’ gaps in competencies pertaining to leadership (RNMU & RWN, 2015).

  1. Leadership Training

The vision of the RNMU is to have an empowered nurse and midwife who is motivated to provide high quality service and uphold professional excellence while enjoying quality life.
