THE HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICERS WORKSHOP OCTOBER

Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union (RNMU) is a combined professional organization and trade union with more than 10,000 members and is in place to advocate and protect the nursing and midwifery profession in the aspects of labor, social, and economic development. The mission and vision of the Union is to have an empowered nurse and midwife who is motivated to provide high-quality service and uphold professional excellence while enjoying a quality life.

RNMU is a member-based organization and each month members contribute 1% of their net salary through check off system where their contribution is deducted directly from the salary. Once our members sign a consent form permitting the union to deduct the contribution which is used to run the services that we the Union offers them, it our responsibility to run the process of adding and including them the checkoff system, a system of automatic deductions from the salary.

Contributions made by the members are used to implement the 3 pillars of the union which are (1) To provide professional development and research (2) To provide the social and economic welfare of Nurses and Midwives and (3) To provide labor activities and advocacy.

For RNMU to succeed on this action of deducting the contribution by the members, we partner with the employers of the nurses and midwives, and because of the later, we held a 2 days’ workshop on the 12th-13 October 2023. The workshop included all the 53 HRs of hospitals including the referral hospitals and it was meant for adding the new members and those that moved to other areas of work rather than where they signed the consent forms into to the checkoff system.

Having a 100 % contribution by the members is a great sign of RNMU’s sustainability and able to represent the members accordingly.
