RNMU aims to have an empowered nurse and midwife who is motivated to provide high quality service and uphold professional excellence while enjoying quality life vision. It is committed to being a vibrant, self-sustaining organization that will protect the professional image, improve Socio-Economic Welfare and promote the interests of nurses and midwives through effective representation, capacity building and lead in the delivery of high quality care to the population.
RNMU has deliberately put student nurses at the center of activities the Union engages in. They are the future leaders of RNMU, nursing and midwifery profession and by extension Rwanda’s health sector.
It is upon this background that as a proud sponsor of the first Nursing Club National Nursing Research Symposium RNMU offered the two (02) best young researchers with the best research papers an opportunity to publish their research papers in international scientific journals.
This will offer the young researchers an opportunity for Career advancement, professional recognition, opportunities for collaboration, increased visibility, impact on society, credibility and trust, professional development, inspiration for future research, and contribution to the field. Publishing results of research projects in peer-reviewed journals enables the scientific and medical community to evaluate the findings themselves. It also provides instructions so that other researchers can repeat the experiment or build on it to verify and confirm the results.
While presenting at the Symposium, RNMU President, Mr Andre Gitembagara outlined the challenges of research among youth nurses. He underlined the culture of fear among the youth and encouraged them to overcome the fear, take advantage of the support from partners and the favorable government environment that supports youth to put their talent to use and willing mentors and role models.
RNMU therefore appreciates the initiatives of the Nursing Research Club and encouraged them to uphold their values, mission and objectives.
Ms Alice Uwizeyimana, a young researcher and student of University of Rwanda – Rwamagana Campus School of Nursing and Midwifery presented one of the best research papers titled “Nurses, Midwives & physician’s attitudes towards safe abortion provision in Rwamagana provincial hospital “.
She concluded that nurses, midwives & physicians perceive safe abortion differently hence having a significant impact on the quality of safe abortion care.
