The Norwegian Nurses Organization offered a “Strategic Membership” workshop to its partners in Rwanda and Malawi. RNMU from Rwanda had 7 representatives composed of its staff, political leaders, referral hospitals leaders and shop stewards. Since RNMU is a member based organization (Union), the workshop was an important facet to get deep into involving the members. The workshop was based on the “the membership model”.
The model emphasizes on recruiting, activating and keeping members. This can be done by reflecting, analyzing, and attracting, recruiting, introducing, handling, activating and evaluating the organization mission through actively involving members. Members are the bosses of the union and RNMU considers that as the biggest part of its mission because the members are empowered in order to provide quality service while enjoying quality life.
