RNMU Conducted Breast Cancer Training for Nurses

The Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union (RNMU), in partnership with Accord for a Healthier World, conducted training sessions aimed at strengthening nurses’ capacity in breast cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and comprehensive patient care.

The first session brought together 50 oncology nurses for advanced training on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and the management of treatment-related side effects. Participants also took part in practical sessions where they gained hands-on experience in the use of ultrasound for breast examination and needle biopsy procedures, strengthening their capacity to provide high-quality oncology care and improve patient outcomes.

The second session brought together nurses works in NCDs clinic from different health centers for training on clinical breast cancer examination, treatment approaches, and the management of treatment-related side effects. During the practical sessions, participants strengthened their skills in conducting clinical breast examinations, enhancing their capacity for early detection and improving the quality of breast cancer services at the primary healthcare level.

Through these capacity-building initiatives, RNMU and Accord for a Healthier World continue to support the development of skilled nurses who contribute to timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and improved care for breast cancer patients in Rwanda.
